Financial Aid Process – How to Apply for Financial Aid
Applying for aid can seem like a challenge. Below we have identified the steps to make the process easy less complicated. Financial aid estimates are considered on a rolling basis. It is our mission to inform you within 24 hours from receiving all documentation.
Recommended submission date to ensure timely aid processing for fall 2026 is May 1.
Step 1: Create Your FSA ID
• Create an FSA User ID at www.studentaid.gov
• Note: Dependent students must have contributor register for an FSA ID too
Step 2: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentaid.gov and submit it with the appropriate FSA User IDs.
• NCCC Federal School Code is: 007111
• 2025-2026 FASFA uses 2023 tax year information.
• 2026-2027 FAFSA uses 2024 tax year information
Step 3: New York State residents - Complete a New York State Aid Payment Application – Tuition
Assistance Program (TAP)
• Visit the NYS Higher Education Services website to complete an online New York State
Aid Payment Application. This link can be found on the FAFSA confirmation page. You
can also apply online at NYS Higher Education Services Corporation - NYS TAP
• NCCC’s New York State TAP code is 2258
Step 4: Vermont State residents - Complete a Vermont Student Assistance Grant (VSAC)
• Visit the VSAC website to complete grants and scholarship applications. Please go
to A High School Student | VSAC to review all financial opportunities available.
Step 5: Submit Additional Documents, if required
• In addition to the FAFSA, sometimes you are required to submit other required documents
so the Financial Aid Office is able to complete your file review and award your financial
aid. If you are unsure what documents you need to provide, please log into your Student
Portal account.
Step 6: Award Notification
• Once your information has been processed, the Financial Aid Office will send an
email to your NCCC email and/or person mail with directions to log on the Student
Portal to review all financial aid offers and document requirements.
