Students in the WRL program work at a lean-to in the Adirondack backcountry

SARANAC LAKE -- Students in the college’s Wilderness Recreation Leadership program recently completed their winter practicum course in the Adirondack backcountry.

The group traveled for nine days in the eastern High Peaks, focusing on backpacking, backcountry skiing, avalanche awareness, and winter mountaineering skills.

This is one of two backcountry expeditions students in the WRL program have the opportunity to take on. The fall practicum is a 28-day adventure that typically includes a combination of paddling and backpacking.
