April 3, 2007:
The North Country Community College Women’s Softball team opened their 2007 season Monday, dropping two games at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
The Saints lost the opening game 11-0. Freshman Kayla Carlozzi (Chestertown/North Warren HS) pitched a complete game for the Saints, striking out one. The Saints were unable to pick up a hit against the pitching of Hudson Valley’s Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg HS), who tossed a perfect game.
In the nightcap, the Saints managed to break through their offensive woes. Freshman Amanda Demers (Chateaugay/Chateaugay HS) ripped a double off the fence that was mere feet away from leaving the park to lead off the second inning. In the fourth, the Saints scored their only run after Freshman Dana Pelkey (Keene Valley/Keene HS) lace a double to leftfield, and scored on an RBI-single from Sophomore Jackie Sullivan (Hammond/Hammond HS). It was unfortunately not enough and the Saints lost the second game 19-1. Freshman Judi Durkin (Warrensburg/Warrensburg HS) pitched the complete game, striking out two, only giving up six earned runs.
North Country returns to action Friday, April 13, for a double-header at Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh at 3 pm.
