Women's Soccer - Coaches

 

Kevin Mellon, Head Women's Soccer Coach

 

Now entering his second year of collegiate coaching following a wonderful playing career at Herkimer County Community College (NY) and the State University of New York at Potsdam, Kevin Mellon hails from Cornwall, New York.  He carries a degree in History and in the fall of 2007 he will be pursuing his master’s degree in Sports Leadership through Northeastern University.
 
After his graduation in 2004, Coach Mellon joined the North Country staff as the Athletic Facilities Manager. He joined the women’s soccer staff in 2005 as the assistant coach, with the prospect of taking over the program in 2006.
 
As a two-year defensive midfielder for at Herkimer, Mellon helped the Generals to a cumulative record of 39-3-1 including two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships in 1999 and 2000.  In 2001, Mellon transferred to SUNY Potsdam where as an outside midfielder he was the leading goal scorer his junior year and captained his senior year.  He returned the following fall to assume the role of assistant coach.
 
During the summer months, Mellon represents the Adirondack Region during the Empire State Games as a midfielder for the Men’s Open Team.  He is also a coach throughout the northeast for the Dr. Joe Machnick’s No. 1 Soccer Camps.

 

Brad Rafferty, Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

 

Brad Rafferty recently joined the Saints staff as Assistant Coach for the North Country’s women’s soccer program.

Prior to his arrival at North Country, Rafferty was a member of the Clarkson University men’s soccer program. Rafferty finished his soccer career there in 2005. He previously had played three years of soccer for the SUNY Potsdam men’s soccer team.

Rafferty joined the North Country staff as Enrollment and Financial Aid Counselor in September 2006. He received his coaching certificate in 2005 and will graduate from SUNY Potsdam with a degree in physics and a minor in math.

Originally from Lake Placid, NY, Rafferty attended Lake Placid High School, graduating in 2001. He was a three-year starting midfielder for the Bombers, and captain his junior and senior years. He received First Team All MVAC his junior and senior year.
