Women's Soccer

The 2011 Saints will rely heavily on an infusion of youth this season returning only 4 players from last years squad. With 14 incoming freshman, the Saints hope to greatly improve from the 2010 season and improve in Region III play.

Leading the Saints at forward this season is sophomore Captain, Chloe Coom (Queensland, Australia). Coom will move from her Center Mid position last season in hopes of sparking the Saints offense with her shooting and passing ability. She will be paired up front with freshman Tiarra Spencer (Tupper Lake/Saranac Lake) who will give the Saints a huge burst of speed and scoring. Sophomore Hiba Saidi (Taounate, Morrocco) will be the primary reserve at the forward spot.  Freshman Jaimee Provost (Plattsburgh/Keeseville, NY) and Nicky Bushey (Peru/Chazy, NY) will also serve as backups for the Saints.

The midfield this season will be strong with a good mix of youth and experience. Transfer Molly Ploof (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) and freshman Georgiana Knox (Lake Placid/Lake Placid) will lead the center of the midfield and provide the Saints with speed, control, and a lot of offensive and defensive ability. The right mid will be handled by freshman Christina Sherman (Westport/Westport), who brings a tough, aggressive style with her as well as excellent defensive abilities. The left side of the midfield will be split between Sophomore Kaitlyn Facteau and Freshman Stephanie Murphy . Facteau played all 3 positions for the Saints last season and her speed and toughness will help greatly. Murphy brings great passing ability and a left footed option for the Saints. Both will also help out on defense occasionally. Freshman Megan Poirier (Tupper Lake/Tupper Lake) will serve as the primary backup in the midfield as well as seeing occasional starts.

The defense is a completely new unit with 4 freshman leading the way.  Nichola Parachos (NSW, Australia) and fellow countryman Amanda Riley (NSW, Australia) anchor the Saints central defense. Parachos brings a lot of speed, size, and toughness to the back, while Riley may be the Saints most technically sound player. Kayla Page (Wells/Speculator, NY) and Brianna Murphy (Keene/Keene, NY) will be a tough match-up on the outside for opponents both playing a smart but physical game. Freshman Margo Favreau (Peru/Peru, NY) will serve as a back-up to the defenders.

In net is Sophomore Heather Braid (Ausable Valley/Keeseville, NY). Braid was a defender for last seasons squad and made the move to Goal in the preseason. Braid, who is also the Captain of NCCC's Softball team, has used her terrific hands, athletic ability, and willingness to learn to take the burden off replacing last years All-Conference Keeper, Sam Selkirk. She will be backed up by Margo Favreau.

Improving on last years record and becoming competitive in regional play are the Saints primary goals this season. “We have shown an ability to take our game to the next level this season, and hopefully we are building a strong foundation for the program for many years to come.” Coach Kent Egglefield said. “The ability to compete game in and game out will help strengthen our recruiting efforts for the future, and help us build a winning atmosphere for the girls.”

The Saints Women's Soccer program was founded in 1980 by Bill Borzilleri, then Athletic Director, with the team competing at the club level. In 1981, North Country proudly became the first in the region to pioneer women's junior college soccer at the varsity level. Through the years, the team has been ranked as high as 5th in the nation. The team has honored well over 75 student-athletes on All-Region teams, NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and NJCAA All-Americans.

This 31 year-old soccer program is a member of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 3, Region III, which is one of the largest and historically the most competitive athletic regions in the country. In 2008, the program also became a member of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference.
