North Country’s Season Ends in Overtime
North Country CC fell in their final match of the 2007 season 2-1 in 2OT to Clinton CC. North Country with just 11 eligible players changed their formation to a 3-4-3 for the first time all season.
Jake Losey (Massena/Massena) scored on counterattack off a Clinton corner kick. Losey’s speed was too much for the Clinton defense as he pushed the ball behind the defense at midfield and finished a breakaway for his 3rd goal in the last 3 games. He was assisted by Matt Levac (Massena/Massena). The Saints would lead 1-0 at halftime.
Aaron Goldfarb evened the game with 22 minutes remaining off a cross from Josh Mowery. Clinton goalkeeper Garrett Hume made several key stops including another breakaway by Losey to keep Clinton level.
In the 2nd overtime Ryan Hartigan scored the golden goal to give Clinton the victory and end the Saints season. The Saints finish 4-10 overall and 4-8 in the region.

North Country’s Post Season Hopes Ended by Erie
Erie CC eliminated North Country CC from Post Season contention on Sunday with a 4-3 victory. Phil Barrett opened the scoring for Erie when Goalkeeper Paul Chrisman miscleared a back pass. Barrett slid the deflection into the open net to give Erie the 1-0 lead. The Saints spoiled several chances and were down 1-0 at halftime.
It was just two minutes after halftime that Erie was awarded a penalty kick. Nick Shand converted to give the Cats a 2-0 lead. North Country finally found the back of the net when Jake Losey (Massena/Massena) scored in the 51st minute from 35 yards out putting the ball over Erie goalkeeper Scott Augustine. The goal was Losey’s 4th of the season.
The Saints leveled the game with 26 minutes remaining. James Flaherty (London, Eng/St. Michael’s) played Dean Atkins (Wycombe, Eng/John Hampden) who dribbled the goalkeeper and finished into the open net.
Erie retook the lead in the 75th minute on Josh West’s goal assisted by Phil Burrett. Just 3 minutes later Defender Craig Peacock converted a corner to level the score once gain. But it was not the Saints day several miscues would lead to Erie’s 4th and game winning goal by Josh West.
The Saints outshot Erie 41-13. Goalkeeper Scott Augustine had 24 saves. Paul Chrisman (Burlington/Burlington) had 3 saves. “I’m disappointed in that e did everything we could to give away this game today and it cost us our season,” said Coach Adam Parker. “Their team made the timely plays that our guys couldn’t. Their goalkeeper was outstanding and once again we spent the day playing from behind.”
The Saints then travel to Clinton for their final regular season match on Tuesday, October 16th.
