North Country Community College’s Men’s Soccer Team kicks off its 2007 season looking to get back to the regional tournament for the first time since 2002. With a favorable schedule loaded with home games, the Saints are hoping to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the region alongside Herkimer CCC, Cobleskill, Genesee CC, and Mohawk Valley CC among others.

The Saints return four players from last year’s team. Goalkeeper Jayden Pernice (Norfolk/Norwood-Norfolk) will compete with newcomer Paul Chrisman (Burlington, Vt/Burlington) for the starting spot in goal. In the back, Matt Levac (Massena/Massena) looks to lead the defense alongside Craig Peacock (Boroughbridge,Eng/Boroughbridge) and Kyler Clark (Morrow/South Glens Falls). Left footer Tom Stackpole (Saranac/Saranac) will be used in a variety of positions on the left side. Returning midfielder Curt Nelson (Burlington, Vt/North Country Union) will help hold down the central part of the midfield.

Newcomers Dean Atkins (Wycomb,Eng/John Hampden) Kiel Mullen (Warwickshire, Eng/Warwickshire) and James Flaherty (London, Eng/St. Michael’s) will bring experience from England to this youthful team. Ryan Mellon (Newburgh, Newburgh FA) and Ryan Dishaw (Ogdensburg, Lisbon) will see much of their playing time on the right side.

At forward Mekan Hellenov (Ashgabat, Turkmenistan/Olympic Sport School), Jeffry Esslinger (Moira/Brushton-Moira ), Zach Lawrence (Canton/Canton), Kevin Patanella (Caledonia/Calendonia-Mumford), and Jake Losey (Massena, Massena) lead the attack of this years team.

“I think we have the ability to make the regional tournament this year,” says Coach Parker. “We have a pretty solid core of players and if we are able to get into the post-season anything can happen from there.”
