Men’s Basketball - Coaches

LaDue enters his 7th year of collegiate coaching and his sixth at the helm of the North Country men's basketball program. Since taking over in the 2002-2003 season Coach LaDue has help revive the Saints program. In his first year North Country struggled through a difficult 7-19 campaign but surprised everyone upsetting area rival Paul Smith's College in the Northern Independents Conference Championship game. The next Four season were extremely successful as North Country went a combined 67-38, captured the 2004 and 2006 NIC regular season titles and walked away with the 2005 NIC Tournament championship. The Saints also returned to the Region III Tournament for the first time since 1991, picking up a sub-regional bid, in 2004, 2007 and going all the way to the 2005 regional quarterfinals.

LaDue received the honor of Region III Coach of the Year for his 2003-2004 season. He was one of seven coaches nominated by the 20 schools that participate in Region III Men's Basketball.

LaDue is an alumnus of North County Community College, graduating in 1995, with an Associate Degree of Recreation Facility Management. He was a dual athlete in the sports of soccer and basketball, achieving region III All-Star Status. After graduation, Chad was recruited to play soccer and basketball for SUNY Utica/Rome. His hard work, dedication, and leadership helped lead the Wildcats to their first ever appearance in the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Tournament. In 1997, Chad graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Public Management.

North Country was happy to see LaDue return to the college in 2000, when he assisted both the men's soccer and basketball program.

LaDue is originally from Norfolk, New York and was an All Northern three-sport athlete at Section X's Norwood-Norfolk High School. LaDue and his wife Becky, who are both instructors at North Country, reside in Saranac Lake with their daughter Alex and son Landon.

coach_royRob Roy, Associate Men’s Basketball Coach

 

Coach Roy enters his twenty second year of coaching collegiate basketball, his fifth as assistant coach, with North Country. Since returning to Saranac Lake, Roy along with Head Coach Chad LaDue, has turned the Saints into one of the premier programs in Region III. During the previous Four seasons North Country has enjoyed tremendous success, compiling a 67-38 record, capturing the 2005 NIC Tournament Championship, the 2006 NIC regular season championship and receiving bids to the 2004, 2005 and 2007 Region III Tournaments.

 

Roy began his coaching career, at North Country in the fall of 1986, as an assistant in the women’s program under former Coach Bill Johnson. After a five year stint he took over the helm of the Lady Saints and led them to their first appearance in the NJCAA, Region III quarterfinals after a long absence. Coach Roy also held the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach at North Country during the 1993 -94 and 1994- 95 campaigns, in which LaDue was the starting point guard for the Saints.

 

In the fall of 1995 Coach Roy left North Country and accepted the post of Assistant Coach with the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. During his eight years with the Cardinals Roy served as Junior Varsity Coach and held positions as assistant with the men’s and women’s programs. Roy also had the privilege of coaching several SUNYAC all stars and was a member of the men’s coaching staff that led Plattsburgh State to an undefeated home campaign during the 2001- 2002 season and their first Upstate ECAC Championship title in 1999.

 

Roy is originally from Lisbon, New York and hold degrees from SUNY - Canton and SUNY- Plattsburgh. He resides in Saranac Lake and is employed at the Mountain Lake Children’s Residence in Lake Placid, New York.

 

scott_mitchellScott Mitchell, Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

 

Scott Mitchell, a former standout point guard and All-Conference performer at North Country Community College under LaDue, joined the Saints Men's Basketball staff in July 2007.

 

In his tenure as a Saint from 2003-2005, Mitchell compiled a record of 36-15. He helped lead the Saints to a NIC Championship and a berth to the Region III Quarterfinals in 2005. During that year he also received All-NIC honors and was named a Region III All-Star.

 

Coach Mitchell comes to NCCC in his first season as an assistant coach, after spending his last two years as a player at Potsdam State under Coach Sherry Dobbs. As a captain of the Bears, Scott was second in the SUNYAC Conference in three-point percentage and led his team in assists.

 

Formerly a point guard, Mitchell has a thorough understanding of the game and will be viable to teaching the guards how to become better players. Recruiting local student-athletes is another strength that Mitchell can bring to the table because he is a local who knows many coaches and players in the area.

 

Mitchell is originally from Moira, New York where he was a three-sport athlete. During his senior season at Brushton-Moira Central School, he became the first athlete in the history of Section X to win the highly coveted Joe Jukoski Award (Basketball) and the Jim Pinkerton Award (Baseball). Mitchell resides in Saranac Lake and is the Assistant Residence Director and an Enrollment Counselor for the College.  

 

coach_dumontJerrad Dumont, Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

 

Jerrad Dumont was recently appointed the Saints Head Women’s Basketball Coach.  He will spend this year recruiting, with plans of reemerging the program for the 2008-2009 season.   

 

Dumont attended North Country from 2003-2005, where he was a two sport athlete in both soccer and basketball.  During his senior year, Dumont was named captain and helped lead his team to a Northern Independence Conference Championship and to the semifinals of the Region III tournament. Jerrad was honored with the Athlete of the Year Award for his achievements in both soccer and basketball. After graduation in 2005, Jerrad was recruited to play basketball for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals under Coach Tom Curle.   At Plattsburgh, he would become a two-year starter and a senior captain.  He again would help lead the team to back to back conference championships earning them NCAA tournament appearances both years.  The Cardinals ended up losing their first NCAA game in 2006, but came back Dumont’s senior year and won, making them one of the top 30 teams in the Nation.  Dumont graduated from Plattsburgh State in 2007 with his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice.

Dumont is from Chateaugay, NY where he was a two sport athlete at Chateaugay High School, achieving All Northern honors for both soccer and basketball.
