Office Technology

OFT 101 Beginning Keyboarding (3 credits): Provides instruction in the mastery of the "touch" method of keyboarding on the microcomputer, correct keyboarding techniques, and development of keyboarding skill that combines speed and accuracy.  These basic skills will be applied to the keyboarding of simple problems in correspondence, tabulations, manuscripts, forms, and reports.

 

OFT 102 Intermediate Keyboarding (3 credits): A continuation of OFT 101 that concentrates on building speed and accuracy.  Detailed analysis of correspondence, centering, manuscripts, tabulations, business forms, and reports is provided.  Prerequisite: OFT 101 with a grade of C or better.

 

OFT 118 Machine Transcription (3 credits): Provides intensive training in the transcription of letters, memoranda, and reports using machine transcription equipment.  Mailability and production work are emphasized.  Prerequisite: OFT 101 or typing speed of 30 words per minute.

 

OFT 124 Legal Terminology and Transcription (3 credits): Familiarizes students with the most commonly used legal terms in today's workplace.  Designed to help legal secretaries develop proficiency in transcribing specialized legal dictation.  Prerequisite: OFT 101 or typing speed of 30 words per minute and CIS 130.

 

OFT 140 Office Procedures and Administration (3 credits): Prepares the student to perform the operation functions within the modern office environment, including the procedures necessary to function efficiently in today's business world.  Decisions-making competencies are developed so that the student can operate with a minimum of supervision.  Prerequisite: OFT 101 prior to or concurrently.

 

OFT 240 Office Internship & Seminar (3 credits): Offers an internship experience, allowing the student to apply skills acquired in the classroom to an office situation.  Prerequisite: OFT 101, 102, 118, 140 or permission of instructor.
