Certificate: Gerontology

Program Description:  As average life expectancies rise and the Baby Boom Generation grows older, we see an increased need to support the growing population of older adults.  The Gerontology Certificate coursework focuses on understanding the aging process for students interested in working with and supporting the elderly population in our North Country communities.   For individuals already working with an agency that supports older adults, this certificate provides specific training to enhance skills and knowledge.  Additionally, the certificate program may serve as a starting point for a student who wishes to continue on to a higher level of education within various fields such as human services, social sciences, or health care. The academic foundation of this program focuses on the core knowledge and ethical decision-making skills that are hallmarks necessary for people working in this field.
