Player of the Month

February 1, 2008:

Bell Named Saints Player of the Month

The Athletic Department is pleased to announce Clarence Bell as the Saints’ February Player of the Month.

Bell is a first year forward and captain for the Saints.  He is  a graduate of Tupper Lake High School and comes to us to study Computer Graphics and Design, after studying at SUNY Plattsburgh. He is one of the Saints Athletic Department Scholar-Athletes earning one of the highest GPAs in the Athletic Department.

Bell recently injured himself in regular season play; however, nothing would keep him from missing the 2008 National Ice Hockey Tournament this past weekend.  Despite being hurt, he played the entire weekend and tallied two goals and 2 assists over two games for the Saints. For his efforts, Bell was named to the All-Tournament Team .

Bell played the entire month on the bad leg, pushing it to beyond bearable pain, taking two days off to rest, and then playing on it again.  It was the most inspiring performance I have seen in my five years here.  His month was amazing, but his performance at Nationals alone gives him my vote for Player of the Month,” stated Coach Shomit Datta.

Bell collected 7 points in 4 games this month, with 2 goals and 4 assists.  He finishes the season with 5 goals and 9 assists for the Saints.

Earles named saints’ player of the month

dan-earles-player-of-the-monthNorth Country Saints Hockey netminder Dan Earles earns the November Saints Athlete of the Month.

Earles, a freshman from Penetang, Ontario, posted a 5-3 record for the month of November, while posting a staggering 1.49 Goals Against Average and .952 Save Percentage.  Both numbers place him at the top in the NJCAA in goaltending statistics.  In addition to his statistical domination, he has also earned 3 shutouts in November and 4 shutouts overall this season.

Earles comes to North Country after a stellar junior career for the Penetang Kings where he won the All-Ontario Championships.  His steady play caught the eyes of North Country coaching staff and he has lived up to his potential so far in the early season.

Head Coach Shom Datta states, “Earlesy was brought in to challenge for the number one job and he has proved himself to be the guy so far.  His maturity, and poise has set him apart in our league.  He has a very even-keel demeanor that allows him to stay focused during high stress periods. He bounces back after goals he knows he should have had, as few as those are.  He is capable of making the big save and being the money guy we will need come playoff time.  He is a quiet leader and if not for the fact that he was a goalie, he would probably be wearing a letter for us.”

Saints hockey fans can watch Dan and the rest of the Saints as they challenge for Region III and National Honors.
